Trademark & IP Protection

A brand’s reputation is built on trust — and that trust depends on clarity, authenticity and legal protection. Without the right safeguards, even the strongest identity can be weakened by imitation, misuse, or unauthorised exploitation. Trademark and intellectual property protection are not just legal formalities: they are strategic tools that secure a brand’s position in the market.

I have studied and written about various aspects of the IP protection since the early 1990s. I have also managed a commercial stock and archival photo and footage agency for seven years, dealing daily with the complex aspects of acquiring, clearing, and granting rights to intellectual property objects. Later, I earned an upper second degree in Law, LL.B. (Hons), a postgraduate Diploma in Legal Practice from Oxford, and I have been a member of The Solicitors' Association of Higher Court Advocates (SAHCA) and other professional associations.

I help my clients to identify the elements of their brand that require protection, from names and logos to taglines, designs, domains and creative assets. Some brands don't even have clearly written brand guidelines – and consistency in a brand's portrayal is essential for your reputation. So, we may start from that.

Some brand owners don't realise the value of the elements essential to their brand which need protection. And anything left unprotected maybe used by the competitors and imitators.

Did you know that these days you may even register a particular hue of colour, typeface or tone of sound associated with your brand? Imagine if your competitor did that and then used it to force you change your brand's appearance or pay them a fee to use it? Cases like these are already happening across the ocean, it's only a matter of time when they will come here.

By ensuring all brand elements are properly registered, monitored, and enforced, I help businesses protect the integrity of what they have created and invested in. My work extends to advising on international registrations, managing disputes, and taking proactive steps to ensure IP strategies align with long-term commercial goals.

Effective IP protection also strengthens communications. A brand that owns its identity is a brand that can speak with confidence, build loyalty, and expand into new markets without risk. It sends a powerful message: this name, this story, this legacy is unique — and it belongs only to you.

Whether as part of a wider communications strategy or as a focused project, I help clients integrate trademark and IP protection into their brand management, ensuring the foundation for growth is secure.
